Forward Deployed Software Engineer

Salary not disclosed

About the Role

A well-funded firm that acquires and operates a portfolio of vertical SaaS companies is building an agentic operating system to run the business. The thesis is that most firms in this space scale by adding people, and this one is built to scale by adding software. The system has a sensing layer (a cross-portfolio data lake on open table formats, with a feature store that makes the data readable by agents) and an action layer that runs workflows across three domains: how the firm is run, how the portfolio grows, and how new companies are acquired. A feedback loop underneath captures every action and outcome with stable identifiers. The company has raised $550M+ from leading investors. As a Forward Deployed Software Engineer, you'll work directly on transforming how the firm operates. You'll embed with internal business units such as Finance, Legal, M&A and Talent, work out where the operational bottlenecks are, and ship agentic software straight into core firm workflows. You'll take the foundational agent platforms built by the core engineering teams and turn them into operational leverage for internal stakeholders. This is a hands-on, high-impact engineering role. You'll work alongside domain leaders to find high-leverage workflows and deploy agentic AI tools that automate, accelerate and scale internal processes. The strongest engineers compress complex internal domain knowledge into scalable, automated workflows that raise firm efficiency. This is not a traditional corporate engineering position. Production code ships from day one, and the deliverable is a running system. What You'll Do - Embed with internal business units. Spend time with leaders across Finance, Legal, M&A and Operations to understand how their teams work, where manual effort builds up, and where agentic automation can unlock speed. - Identify the core leverage points. Map the key workflows where LLM-native applications will have the most impact, such as financial reporting pipelines, contract intake and review, deal sourcing analysis and diligence document parsing. - Build and deploy agentic tools. Build the integrations, prompts, evaluations and user interfaces needed to land autonomous agent loops directly into daily operations. - Iterate and measure. Monitor performance in production, gather feedback from team members, refine prompts, and tune autonomy parameters for safety and effectiveness. - Standardise patterns. Document your architecture and deployment patterns so core engineering teams can turn custom agent solutions into reusable infrastructure across the firm. - Partner with internal stakeholders. Act as the technical bridge between engineering and internal business teams, building strong relationships and driving adoption of new software.

Requirements

  • •You have 1 to 4 years of full-time software engineering experience, with strong fluency in Python, TypeScript or Go.
  • •You have hands-on experience with LLMs. You've built projects or applications using LLM APIs, prompt engineering or agentic frameworks, beyond simple chatbot prompts.
  • •You're product-minded and inquisitive. You enjoy working directly with end users, understanding operational workflows and solving real business problems with code.
  • •You have high autonomy and execute proactively. You thrive in ambiguity, own projects from concept to deployment and adapt quickly to feedback.
  • •You're curious about business operations, and want to understand how finance, legal and M&A functions run at a tech-focused capital allocation firm.
  • •You're a clear communicator. You express ideas well in writing and can explain technical choices to non-technical partners.
