Forward Deployed Engineer

Salary not disclosed

About the Role

We're looking for engineers who enjoy solving difficult, messy problems directly with customers and business operators. As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you'll work backwards from the problem. You'll understand how an organisation operates, identify where technology can create leverage, and build and deploy software that solves real problems in production. Your work could span traditional software, data systems, AI applications, LLMs, agents, or a combination of technologies. You'll own projects end-to-end, from initial discovery and solution design through deployment, monitoring and iteration. This is a hands-on role for someone comfortable operating in ambiguous environments, working closely with customers, and figuring out what needs to be built rather than simply implementing predefined requirements. What You'll Do - Work directly with customers, operators and business stakeholders to understand their problems and workflows. - Turn ambiguous business requirements into practical, production-ready technical solutions. - Identify opportunities where software, automation and AI can create meaningful leverage. - Build production applications, integrations and internal tools. - Develop APIs and integrations with existing customer systems. - Build LLM-powered workflows and agentic applications. - Design prompts, evaluations and safeguards for AI-powered systems. - Deploy, monitor and improve systems in real production environments. - Determine where AI systems can operate autonomously and where human approval or oversight is required. - Work across the full stack, including application, data, and infrastructure layers, as needed. - Communicate technical concepts and trade-offs clearly to non-technical stakeholders. - Develop reusable patterns and solutions that can be applied across multiple customers. - Own projects from initial discovery through deployment and ongoing iteration. You'll work on problems such as customer retention, lead qualification and enrichment, customer support automation, accounts receivable, pricing workflows, reporting, data extraction, engineering workflows, business process automation, AI-assisted development, and internal knowledge systems.

Requirements

  • •You have approximately 5–7 years of professional software engineering experience.
  • •You have strong experience with Python or TypeScript.
  • •You have full-stack development experience, including React or comparable frontend technologies.
  • •You have strong SQL and database knowledge.
  • •You have experience building and deploying production software.
  • •You're comfortable working across application, data and infrastructure layers.
  • •You can enter an unfamiliar technical environment and become productive quickly.
  • •You're comfortable working directly with customers and business stakeholders.
  • •You communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.
  • •You work well with ambiguity and significant autonomy.
  • •You're able to take ownership of a problem and figure out what needs to be built rather than waiting for detailed instructions.
  • •You understand that building a successful production system involves more than getting a prototype to work.
