A venture-backed AI startup building the financial operating system for healthcare is hiring a Machine Learning Engineer to lead the development of an agentic AI platform that autonomously resolves insurance claim denials. Backed by CRV with $22M in Series A funding, this is a greenfield opportunity to architect and own a production AI system that directly impacts the financial health of healthcare practices. On-site in New York City, three days per week. Your Responsibilities: Design and build the architecture for an agentic AI system that autonomously classifies, researches, and resolves insurance claim denials. Develop specialised AI agents for denial classification, root cause analysis, evidence retrieval, policy reasoning, and appeal generation. Implement multi-agent orchestration frameworks coordinating complex workflows across research, decision-making, and document generation. Build and optimise RAG systems to retrieve relevant clinical documentation, billing records, and payer policy information. Create evaluation frameworks and feedback loops to continuously improve agent performance and reliability Design prompt engineering strategies and fine-tuning approaches to optimise LLM behaviour for healthcare billing workflows. Work closely with billing managers to translate denial resolution workflows into agent behaviours Collaborate on production infrastructure for deploying and monitoring AI agents at scale
